Biography

Experience: Staffer, South Australian Parliament and Australian Senate

Samuel is a Ramsay Scholar and DPhil candidate at the University of Oxford, where his research examines wargames in the Indo-Pacific. Before returning to Oxford to complete his studies, Samuel worked for five years as a political staffer, including in the Australian Senate and for a Cabinet Minister in South Australia. Most recently, as Principal Adviser to the Leader of the Opposition in South Australia, Samuel drafted Australia’s first motion for a bipartisan Joint Committee on AUKUS and, with the support of the South Australian Government, led a diplomatic delegation to the United Kingdom to support the AUKUS strategic partnership. Samuel leads the AUKUS seminar series as Research Associate with the Emerging Threats Group.
